1. Do I need to already own a lot before contacting you?

No. You can contact us whether you already own property or are still searching for the right homesite.

If you are considering a property, involving the builder early can be valuable. Site conditions, topography, utilities, setbacks, access, grading, and local requirements can all influence what can be built and what the project may ultimately cost.

We are happy to help evaluate a potential homesite before you commit to it.

2. Do I need architectural plans before contacting Gordon Custom Homes?

No.

Some clients come to us with completed architectural plans, while others begin with nothing more than an idea, inspiration photos, and a property.

We can become involved early in the design process and work alongside your architect or designer to help ensure the home is both thoughtfully designed and practical to build.

Involving the builder during design also allows construction costs, materials, structural considerations, and site conditions to be considered before the plans are finalized.

3. How custom can my home be?

Completely custom.

We do not require clients to choose from a predetermined collection of floor plans or finish packages. Your home can be designed around your property, lifestyle, architectural preferences, and priorities.

From the overall floor plan and exterior architecture to cabinetry, millwork, lighting, flooring, plumbing fixtures, and building systems, each project is approached individually.

Our role is to help turn your ideas into a cohesive home while providing guidance on construction, functionality, durability, and budget along the way.

4. How much does it cost to build a custom home?

There is no single cost per square foot that accurately represents every custom home.

Construction cost is influenced by the size and complexity of the home, architecture, site conditions, structural requirements, windows and doors, building systems, cabinetry, appliances, interior finishes, landscaping, and many other factors.

Rather than relying on a generic square-foot number, we work to develop a detailed project budget based on the actual home you intend to build.

Establishing realistic expectations early allows design and construction decisions to be made with the overall budget in mind.

5. How long does it take to build a custom home?

The schedule varies depending on the size and complexity of the home, site conditions, permitting, material lead times, selections, and weather.

As a reference, many of our approximately 5,000-square-foot homes have been completed in about seven months from the start of foundation construction.

More complex homes may require additional time.

We place a strong emphasis on planning, scheduling, and daily site involvement so projects continue moving efficiently from one phase to the next. Speed should come from organization and preparation—not shortcuts.

6. How involved will I be during construction?

As involved as you would like to be.

A custom home requires decisions throughout the process, and we believe clients should understand what is happening with their home and feel comfortable asking questions along the way.

You will have direct communication with the builder throughout construction rather than being passed between multiple layers of management.

We guide you through major decisions, selections, and changes while keeping you informed as the project progresses.

7. Can I make changes after construction begins?

Yes, although thoughtful planning before construction begins is always preferable.

Changes are sometimes part of building a truly custom home. When a change is requested, we review how it affects the construction scope, schedule, and budget before proceeding.

Our goal is to make the process clear so you can make informed decisions without unnecessary surprises later in the project.

The earlier a change is identified, the easier it generally is to accommodate.

8. Who helps with selections and finishes?

We work closely with our clients throughout the selection process and can coordinate with your interior designer if you are working with one.

Selections may include cabinetry, countertops, flooring, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, appliances, hardware, paint, millwork, exterior materials, and numerous other details.

Beyond appearance, we also help clients consider durability, functionality, installation requirements, and how individual selections work together within the overall home.

9. What makes Gordon Custom Homes different?

We intentionally remain a boutique builder so we can stay personally involved in every home we build.

Your project is personally overseen by the builder with daily involvement on site and direct communication throughout construction.

That allows us to closely monitor workmanship, coordinate trades, address details quickly, and keep projects moving.

We also believe the parts of a home you cannot see are just as important as the finishes you can. Building envelope, waterproofing, structural details, windows, mechanical systems, and installation methods all contribute to how a home performs long after construction is complete.

Earlier is usually better.

You do not need finalized plans, completed selections, or even a purchased homesite before starting the conversation.
